Life on the leukemia front has been quiet for the past few weeks. Bloodwork was okay on our last lab visit. No midnight trips to the ER. Definitely a case of no-news-is-good-news. But if I have learned anything from this cancer journey so far, it would be to enjoy the quiet moments because you never know what is around the bend.
That is why I keep a hospital suitcase packed and ready to go at all times. It is full of what Donald and I might need for a multi-day hospital stay. It sits right at our back door so I can pick it up on the way out. If we leave home and go farther than 30-40 mins away from home, I take the suitcase. It goes with us to all clinic appointments as well. The ice chest is filled with vegetarian microwavable soups and things, because although the hospital's food is pretty decent, it is expensive.
When we checked out of the hospital after our diagnosis inpatient stay, I thanked the nurse who had been so very kind to us. I told her that although I appreciated her work very much, I never planned to stay on the oncology floor again. She smiled grimly and responded with, "It's not if you'll be back, just when." Ouch. Reality check. So I'm learning to expect the unexpected while enjoying the quiet times.
God is Faithful.
I'm glad life has been quiet. :) Hopefully it stays that way!
ReplyDeleteWe have a similar suitcase and have had to use it. You never know what a day will bring. Praying for you.
