I Think The Birds Have Forgiven Me

My greedy little sparrow friends were the first to return to the this feeder.
It has been my habit for several years now to maintain several birdfeeders in our yard.  Our main feeder is about 6 feet away from my bedroom window, which gives the children and I a nice indoor observation spot.  Life was so overwhelming to me in the months following Donald's diagnosis that I neglected the feeders and birdbath.  I was in survival mode and the birds were not a priority at the time.  I felt so guilty that I let my bird friends down during such a hot and dry summer, especially when I think about how the drought dried up most of the natural food and water sources in our area.  Oh how I missed spending a few quiet minutes each morning watching my bird friends.

It's been a few weeks now since I took up filling the feeders and birdbath again.  It took a few days for them to notice, but I've had visits from all the bird friends that I would expect to see this time of year.   I'm glad that the juncos, wrens, finches, chickadees, nuthatches and others have forgiven me.  I think they deserve a new feeder and birdbath, don't you?

3 Grace Notes:

  1. I love feeding and watching our birdie friends! We don't feed during the summer, but once it turns cold we put out LOTS of black sunflower seeds. Our bird bath is a plastic storage container. The little creatures don't mind.

So relaxing to watch them! My favorites are the chickdees, who will learn to trust you and feed on your hand if you stand out there, quiet and still!

  2. Cute bird feeder! I've never seen an open one like that.
